Consultant, People and Equity

Are you passionate about contributing to the creation of inclusive workplaces and advancing Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples? While living the Rise values and contributing in a team environment, this full-time role is responsible for successfully managing and delivering multiple client projects across various sectors and this role will consistently support the improvement of products and practices as well as contribute to business development. Responsibilities include:

Client Delivery

Support the successful management and completion of all client delivery activities, including:

  • Responsible for leading and contributing to a positive experience for all clients
  • Responsible for participating in high-quality, sustainable, open and respectful client relationships 
  • Co-create project plans and apply project management methodology to client work, products and practice area development, programs and initiatives, leveraging existing and/or creating new systems and tool
  • Lead or support senior team members to identify, formulate and implement values-led policies, procedures, strategies, work plans or other deliverables, related to our Areas of Practice, resulting in clearly defined impacts and tangible outcomes across a variety of sectors
  • Conduct research and compile information to inform clients’ strategy and decision-making
  • Support the research and development of innovative programs and strategies for youth mentorship and workforce inclusion
  • Grounded in the principle, ‘Reconciliation is relationship’, co-create Community Engagement Plans and tools, including relations and engagement-readiness training, with clients, Indigenous communities and organizations
  • Support project planning, timeline creation and project management
  • Support senior team members to ensure projects remain within scope, on time, and within budget. Successful project management requires coordination with the project sponsor and team members to facilitate the delivery of reports, roadmaps, engagement and learning sessions, and action plans within the agreed-upon timelines
  • Lead and support the facilitation of discovery sessions for leaders, workforce, procurement, and other departments, sharing circles, and routine working group meetings with clients and their internal stakeholders. Groups are composed of individuals across large corporations in various functional roles and business literacy is required to understand and facilitate meaningful discussion
  • Support the development of forward-thinking strategies for workforce development based on principles of diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Share knowledge and lead or support training sessions, utilizing our Rise Learning and Development Program

Team and Community Involvement

Accountable to team members within Rise and Indigenous Communities, by effectively contributing to a values-led environment, involving: 

  • Participate in the Rise Impact Program: 2% of working time is spent volunteering
  • Responsible for sharing knowledge with the team regarding new learnings, templates, tools or methods

Practice, Services and Product Development

Responsible for continually contributing to the improvement of Rise services, products and practices as related to the areas of community relations, supply chain management, business development, workforce lifecycle, leadership, sustainability and ESG: 

  • Support senior team members to ensure the currency of modules, templates and tools used within Rise practice areas by applying new evidence and best practices
  • Support and co-create new services, products, materials or modules to be used across Rise
  • Support senior team members to identify and implement improvement opportunities in processes and programs. 

Business Development 

Responsible for business growth and development activities such as:

  • Participate in new project discussions with potential clients 
  • Positively representing Rise by attending conferences and networking events
  • Responsible for producing marketing and communications material used on Rise channels to share knowledge and engage current and future business relationships

Operations

Responsible for operational and strategic planning activities including:

  • Internal administration and operations support
  • Active consultation and participation in annual strategic planning to shape the direction of Rise, in alignment with the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). 
  • Responsible for creating personal annual and quarterly rocks in alignment with the annual strategic plan for Rise
  • Accountable for achieving rocks that have been set. Effectively navigating barriers as necessary and problem-solving to ensure rocks are on track or that roadblocks have been communicated to the Founder and Principal for resolution 
  • Responsible for managing workload and tracking time spent on different activities to align with the rocks that have been agreed upon with the Founder and Principal
  • Acting in the best interest of Rise at all times

Capabilities, Experiences and Attributes  

As someone passionate about supporting the rising presence of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and the success of our organization, the successful candidate must possess the following core capabilities, experience and attributes:  

  • Self-identifies as Indigenous and/or has first-hand knowledge or experience living in and/or working with Indigenous communities is valued
  • Brings experience and deep understanding of, and interest in, Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples in Canada 
  • Brings experience and an understanding of the workforce cycle and Human Resources (HR)
  • Passionate about creating safe and inclusive spaces for Indigenous People 
  • Draws on past experiences in Indigenous engagement, consultation, relationship building and stewardship 
  • Three to five years direct or related work experience in areas including professional services, consulting, internal strategy, transformation or change management or the ability to be proactive and learn quickly 
  • Post-secondary education in Indigenous relations, law, business, human services, community development, education, or related field; demonstrated equivalent training and experience in communities is highly valued  
  • Contributes with strong written and oral communication, time management skills and excellent attention to detail 
  • Brings strong critical thinking skills, analytical abilities, and the capacity for creative thinking and problem-solving  
  • Is tech-savvy and keen to learn and apply online engagement tools

  • Self-supervision: desire and ability to manage own targets, workload and schedule with the capability to prioritize multiple projects and deliverables. Desire to contribute to business growth with an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit
  • Interpersonal skills and collaborative teamwork: strong communication and negotiation tactics used to manage professional relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Project management and organizational skills: setting project plans and deadlines and holding self and others accountable to meet the planned deliverables within the timeline and scope. Organizing various projects and materials simultaneously
  • Emotional intelligence: self-awareness of own and others’ emotional reactions given the sensitive nature of the work. Must have the ability to manage reactions and navigate uncomfortable conversations with gentle curiosity.
  • People management: able to assist others to set and achieve goals and guide skill development 
  • Proficient verbal, written and reading skills: clear articulation of thoughts and ideas in business reports delivered to leaders within large corporations
  • Fluid memory and free recall: able to easily recall knowledge, facts, and information during interactions to facilitate learning and deepen discussions successfully
  • Analysis and decision making: able to compile and analyze multiple sources of information to formulate recommendations that guide client decisions and actions
  • Computer literacy: familiarity and use of project management, facilitation and presentation tools including Monday.com, Canva, Miro, Mentimeter, Microsoft 365 Suite, or similar programs
  • Affable, confident, humble personality with a can-do attitude and the desire to contribute to a purpose-driven, B Corp company

Organizational Accountability

  • This role reports to a Senior Consultant or the Founder and Principal and is expected to self-manage to achieve performance goals and targets

Performance Expectations and Measurables

  • Responsible for achieving utility (client delivery time) targets
  • Responsible for achieving product and practice development targets
  • Responsible for achieving impact (volunteering) targets
  • Responsible for achieving personal annual and quarterly rocks

Total Rewards Package 

The Rise Total Rewards Package considers five key areas: compensation, work environment, contributions/performance, personal and professional development and wellness.  

  • Compensation – annual base salary ranges between $75,000 – $100,000 (based on a 37.5-hour work-week) 
  • Remote first work environment with a home office monthly allowance of $200
  • Annual contributions and performance review with potential bonus through the Rise triple bottom line profit-sharing program
  • Personal and professional development with an annual allowance of $2,000. Team-building events throughout the year, and knowledge-sharing internally and externally
  • Wellness:  
    • Access to the Victor group benefits plan inclusive of health, dental, basic life, AD&D, dependent life, short-term disability and long-term disability 
    • Access to the Rise Wellness Program with a monthly allocation of $50 
    • Access to the Benefits My Way health spending account with an annual allowance of $500 
    • Approximately 36 wellness days (including 13 observed days (at Rise, we observe June 21 and September 30), 15 vacation days, five sick days, and winter break (at Rise, we take days off for ‘winter break’ between December 25-31 annually)
