Rise Portfolio
2025 ATB Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan
Setting Out (what was agreed to)
Building on strategic planning and learning and development in 2023, in 2024 and 2025 we supported ATB as they took a step forward with accountability, honesty and transparency in the co-creation of the inaugural ATB Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan. Rise created the project plan, and over the 14-month project, Rise led comprehensive organization-wide internal engagement while guiding team members at ATB to lead external engagement activities to foster existing and build new relationships, to support Plan development in a good way. Additionally, Rise led multiple learning and development sessions with ATB team members to support the project, including: Story Telling for Communicators, Communication and Indigenous Worldviews and Wise Practices with Truth and Reconciliation Planning.
The Journey Walked and Gifts Gathered
The tenet “nothing about you, without you” was centered through the entire project lifecycle. Internal and external relationships were deepened and roles and responsibilities across the ATB team for successful implementation, using a RACI framework, were solidified.
The project, and the ongoing implementation of the Plan, was and is inspired by artwork by Woodland Cree artist Kevin Cardinal, and the Nêhiyawak (Cree people) concept “sipeyitamowin poko ta ayayak,” meaning, “It is important that we have patience as we work together”. The concept of Etuaptmumk (a Mi’kmaq word for two-eyed seeing) and ATB’s commitment to the five R’s (respect, relevance, reciprocity, responsibility and relationships) grounded the implementation of the external Indigenous Community Engagement Plan. Engagement activities took place with Indigenous partners, clients, and communities across Treaty 6, Treaty 7, Treaty 8, the Métis Nation of Alberta, the Metis Settlements and various Métis Locals. The result: five pillars, 14 commitments and specific goals across two fiscal years (April 1, 2025 – March 31, 2027) in support of Truth and Reconciliation; reflecting ATB’s dedication to fulfilling Call to Action #92 from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
Impact
Honesty, transparency and deepened relationships. Clarity with action, responsibility and accountability for ATB as aligned with their Reconciliation Responsibility statement.
